A panel and an electrical service are different parts of the system
The panel distributes electricity to property circuits. The service is the incoming supply and associated equipment. Replacing a panel does not automatically increase the available supply. A Licensed Electrical Contractor should assess existing condition and demand, planned loads and the utility requirements before recommending equipment. Spare breaker spaces alone do not establish capacity.
Prepare the scope for your Port Perry property
List the installed and planned equipment, any separate structures and the parts of the property needing assessment. Identify who can provide access if the owner is not present.
Ask for the recommendation to distinguish circuit space, equipment condition and service capacity. Coordinate any required outage around equipment that must remain operating and the contractor or utility schedule.
What should the assessment establish?
For an intermittently occupied Port Perry property, plan access and any outage around the actual equipment that must continue operating. Ask the contractor which installation areas need to be reached and who can grant that access. If the owner is away, establish how a scope change will be approved rather than leaving the decision informal. A service proposal should still follow assessed loads and equipment condition. Occupancy frequency does not itself justify a particular capacity, and a panel change should not be presented as a substitute for assessing any separate reliability concern.
Questions before you agree to work
Does every new load need a larger service?
No universal service size applies to every project. The contractor must assess the existing system and proposed demand, and explain whether a service change, another design or no capacity change is appropriate.
Who arranges utility and ESA steps?
Confirm this in the written scope. Service work may need utility coordination as well as ESA notification and review. Ask the contractor what they arrange and what the owner must supply or authorize.
